BlackBerry Bold 9700 Phone

AT&T has just introduced us to their latest baby in a fast growing world of technology, by bringing us the Apple IPhone. Features included with this easy to handle and slick looking device they call a mobile phone consists of, rich HTML email, and Safari advanced web browser where you can sync bookmarks from either a Mac or PC. It has a Google and Yahoo search built in. The IPhone is an equally brilliant Ipod, where you can enjoy music, videos, movies; rentals and more on a 3.5 color display. The price for this baby is $399. for a 8GB model or $499. for a 16GB. This phone is also equipped with a 2.0 megapixels camera for superb pictures and video taking, weighs 4.8 ounces, and includes an SMS application; and voice activated voicemail so you can check messages that are of utmost importance first. The IPhone even has a special YouTube player that you can launch from your Home screen, and is the feature I feel was of least interest to me for don't deem it necessary to watch YouTube on the road, nor do I picture any other business tycoon or CEO taking the time to watch it. The Apple IPhone is probably the most hyped up cell phone today due to its revolutionary touch screen interface, but for those of us who still love the feel and touch of buttons it doesn't compare to our next item on the ranking scale. I for one am a very heavy texter; therefore love the convenience of our predecessor.

The LG Voyager from Verizon is another touch screen interface with great multimedia features. This device even comes with a QWERTY keyboard with large widely-spaced keys for easy messaging, which the IPhone lacks. This phone also offers generous features such as, EV-DO support, V-Cast Mobile, TV Bluetooth; a top-notch Web browser, and an integrated GPS application. With the LG Voyager you will also find a 2.0 megapixels camera and camcorder with auto-focus, a micro SD memory port up to 8GB, dual speaker stereo sound, and has Bluetooth and Hearing Aid capabilities as well. This beautiful piece is priced at $299, yet does not support all Bluetooth object transfer (OBEX) profiles, which is why I found it wasn't worth the expense. At 4.64 by 2.12 by 0.71 inches, the voyager is exactly as tall as the en-V, but it's also a bit wider when measured across the front face; and weighs in at 4.69 ounces, which is half an ounce lighter than its forerunners, the VX10000 and the VX9800. With all the other features combined it is a very sexy device with curved edges and a sleek look. Although this phone lacks Wi-Fi, it offers 3G, stereo Bluetooth; multi-media messaging, video recording and voice dialing, and gives you access to streaming video and over-the-air music downloads. Compared to the IPhone video performance may not portray the richness in quality but the music quality is respectable, and the call quality was crispier than that of the IPhone, where callers constantly complained about background noise and hissing sounds. We will now discuss the last of our comparable devices.

Blackberry's Curve also from AT&T. This phone offers wireless email, advanced phone features, speaker phone; voice activated dialing, IM, SMS & MMS, and it only gets better. With this device you can also find a media player, camera with 2.0 megapixels with built in zoom and flash. Blackberry's Curve also boasts a 3.5 mm stereo headset capability, browser, organizer and wait folks, this device can give you access to your vital corporate database and applications from anywhere with corporate data access. You can also view Blackberry Maps, it has tethered modem capability for laptops and PC's and trackball navigation; and is Enterprise Friendly to work with your organizations Blackberry Enterprise Solution and can also be centrally managed and supported by IT departments. The cost of this unique cell phone is $249.99 and it only weighs in at 3.9 oz, is 4.2" in length and 2.4" in width. The Blackberry phone is by far the best I have viewed and like the LG Voyager also has a QWERTY keyboard which includes keyboard backlighting. The Blackberry has an Expandable memory and support for microSD card, and includes a 64 MB (Flash Memory.) The one thing I didn't like too much about this phone was its battery life of up to 4 hours talk time, which means if you are always on the go you must make sure your charger is with you at all times.

The Blackberry Bold and the iPhone 3GS are two of the most popular advanced devices in the cell phone market. Both have left AT&T subscribers in a bind as to what smart phone they should choose to make their lives more efficient. Each phone has its own target market, and thus, its important to evaluate how you want to primarily use the phone, and then what additional features would be important to you. With that said, its also important to consider how they match up against one another, particularly if you don't necessarily have a specific need, but just want the best of the best.

Starting from the inside out, one of the major factors you want to consider with any cell phone, especially smart phones, is the battery. There is a major difference between the two devices when it comes to battery. While battery life between the two may be virtually identical, the way that the battery is built into each phone is different. The iPhone 3GS, like previous iPhones, has a built-in, non-removal battery. That may cause a problem for those that use their phones non-stop throughout the day, and hope to have a device to last them a few years. The reason it may be a problem is that it will be very much an annoyance to replace the battery. The battery on the Blackberry Bold, however, is removable. This means that you can seek out an OEM battery down the road for a much cheaper price, and not have to worry about being without your precious advanced device for a single minute, which in the business world is an eternity.

Another glaring difference between the iPhone and the Bold is the keyboard. While the 3GS has easily the best touch-screen keyboard on the market, making typing on it a breeze, it still is not as business friendly as the physical tactile keyboard of the Blackberry.

When comparing the cameras between the two, the iPhone 3GS camera does have higher megapixels, and generally tends to take better pictures. However, the Blackberry Bold 9700, which is the Bold successor is said to camera that is equal in megapixels to the iPhone 3GS, but also with a better lens.

The 3GS, which offers two different storage sizes, trumps the Blackberry Bold, as the Blackberry can only hold a maximum of 8 gigabytes external storage, which equals the smaller size of the iPhone 3GS's internal storage.

Finally, perhaps the biggest advantage to the iPhone 3GS is that of the operating system and availability of applications. There is no cell phone on the market that offers as many applications as the iPhone, which makes it one of the most popular and most sought after cell phones available today.

The truth is that the iPhone 3GS right now serves as a better all-around device than the Blackberry Bold. The Blackberry Bold may be a better device for business, but for consumers looking for a Blackberry to compete with the 3GS, you are better off waiting for the Blackberry Bold 2.
